How to Cut Calories to Lose Weight

There are a few fat loss secrets that you should know, but none of them are more important than the idea that you must cut calories to lose weight. It is often thought that by eating less and shifting to fresh salads that the fat will melt away.

Unfortunately that is not how our bodies are programmed to work. Humans are a survival type of animal and have developed over time so that fat is stored for when it may be required. By not consuming enough calories our bodies think it is starving which makes it want to keep the fat already stored.

As you begin to cut calories to lose weight by reducing your food intake, your body will begin to adjust hormone levels which signal it to decrease your metabolism, increase your appetite, and storing that fat.

Studies have shown that a rapid weight loss, or a reduction in calorie intake significantly below what you need decreases leptin production. This hormone will signal to your body that calorie consumption is not adequate. Our adaptable survival driven bodies will then slow metabolism, signal that more food is required, and store as fat anything that it can.

The best idea is not to go on a severe diet that cuts calories to reduce weight. A more careful approach is preferred so that we do not get into a survival type situation. This will involve a smaller reduction in calorie intake and over time reduce to a state where you have a deficit in what you need to retain your present weight and what you are taking in, which of course leads to weight loss.

By increasing the effort you put in to an exercise regime and combining this with a reducing calorie consumption, progress will be made. This eliminates the body’s move into a starvation type situation which would defeat the objective before a start was made.

Skipping meals is not a way to reduce calories when trying to lose weight. This simply triggers your body to take those steps detailed above and try and protect itself. Instead simply reduce your intake at each meal so that you have a modest calorie deficit.

With any luck with the increase in intensity of exercise, it may be possible to eat more and still lose weight.
